OPAL NOBBYS

Nobby opals are rounded pieces of precious opal found in the Lightning Ridge opal fields of New South Wales, Australia. They form as rare anomalies within the dirt of the opal bearing level and are one of the most valuable forms of rough opal due to the rarity of finding high quality pieces containing brilliant colour.

The mining process often involved the extra labour intensive step of washing the dirt from the opal level through an agitator to reveal any gems!
