Opal triplets consist of three layers: a thin slice of natural opal between a dark backing and a clear protective cap, usually made from quartz or glass. The clear top magnifies and protects the opal’s colour, producing a bright and eye-catching gemstone at an accessible price. Triplets are best kept away from prolonged water exposure to protect the bonded layers.
